David Guetta Review: Love is Gone?

My Saturday night was definitely eventful! As I was “Guetta’ing” excited to see the one and only David Guetta, I ended up briefly wearing  my originally designed F*ck Me I’m Famous shirt – that is, until I realized I look pretty silly in neon green! Saturday was my 3rd time seeing a DJ at the Hollywood Palladium – and again, I will have to say it is one of my favorite venues mainly because 1) I wasn’t trampled by a sea of ravers 2) I had an amazing view of the DJ from the upper balcony & had enough room to dance!

I was lucky enough to hear the opening set by the Manufactured Superstars who are amazing DJs and also the founders of our beloved Beatport. The duo from Denver wowed the crowd from the start – honestly, I could have listened to them all night, but we will get to that later. If you would like more info. on them head to their main WEBSITE. Insomniac Events was kind enough to post their opening set on Soundcloud, click HERE to listen to and download the set (you can thank me later).

Now to the most important person of the night…. Mr. David Guetta himself. Call me biased, but seeing as this was the 4th time (don’t judge me) hearing David Guetta spin live – I had extremely  high expectations for this event….ESPECIALLY after his recent immersion into mainstream music. (Hmm…perhaps that’s the problem here?). While he played the crowd’s favorites and also surprised us with a little collaborative performance with Will.I.Am., overall he did not WOW me. What I really remember most were those hard-hitting electro songs that he played…yes the ones that no one knew… and the ones that only satisfied those in let’s say – “another state of mind.”

Overall, I am still a big fan and supporter of his, but I can’t hide my disappoint from this weekend’s past performance. I did enjoy those special moments when he played his recent hits and everyone went crazy. His passion and enthusiasm for his music and fans is definitely evident in how he works the crowd while he talks to them during his performances. I’ll just have to keep thinking of those days when not everyone knew his name and his music was actually a little bit more creative… the days of “Love Don’t Let Me Go,” “The World is Mine, ” & “Stay” will forever be in my mind! B.E.P. – Do it Like This

Twin Blood – Once Again (Extended Mix)

Skrillex – All I Ask of You

B.E.P. – Time of Your Life (The Dirty Bit)

The Count & Sinden – Addicted To You (Take it the Club Remix)

Flo Rida – Club Can’t Handle Me (Stan Courtois & Felly X-centrik Remix)

David Guetta & Taio Cruz – Little Bad Girl

**Can’t WAIT to hear David Guetta spin live this weekend at the Hollywood Palladium!!! (I will be posting a review of the show next week so stay tuned)

Friday Night FUN: DJ D’Lish at Geisha House!

This weekend I DJ’d the Bosphorus Nights presents: MADE IN ISTANBUL party at Geisha House in Hollywood. What a success! I didn’t think we could top the last Bosphorus Nights party at Les Deux in June, but I have to say that this one was even better. More people, more new music, and lots of love! Most importantly, I wanted this night to reflect two of my favorite clubs in Istanbul, Turkey: Reina and Anjelique. Both clubs are unique in their own environments and music and Friday night I tried to create a fusion of these popular clubs by playing a variety of European House, Lounge, Turkish, and Latin House music.

DJ’ing in the Moon Room was definitely a treat, as guests were able to see the night sky from above and also had their own private bar. VIP tables circled the dancefloor and of course, I had my own stage with… wait for it…. my own lighting control (that came in handy towards the end of the night….mood lighting anyone?)

As guests arrived somewhat early, I began by playing my typical “cocktail hour” music…Bitter:Sweet, Gotan Project, Late Night Alumni, Kaskade and then began to pick up the pace a little bit with some Ben Watt, Max Zotti, & Jose Delgado (recent releases: see featured music below). For those familiar with Turkish music, I played some new Burcu Gunes, Tarkan, Demet Akalin, & Serdar Ortac. In my attempt to mix things up, I then switched gears and played my favorite Euro house songs: Yolanda Be Cool – We No Speak Americano, Edward Maya – Stereo Love, & of course Stromae – Alors On Danse (YouTube Video). These 3 gems definitely got the crowd dancing and singing along!

After another round of Turkish music, I thought it was time to roll out the Spanish house! I began this section with one of my newest favorites Carnaval Mundial (see featured music below) – a house cover of the famous Celia Cruz’s La Vida Es Un Carnaval. After, came the beloved Suavamente, and then a Gypsy Kings megamix! More turkish followed with Turkey’s most popular summer hits: Hande Yener – Bodrum, Serdar Ortac – Poset, Tarkan’s Sevdanin Son Vurusu, & Ozan Dogulu ft. Sila – Alain Delon. But I think the 2 biggest Turkish hits of the night were Ibrahim Tatlises’ Gulum Benim & Kenan Dogulu’s Elveda Meyhaneci. (When I say biggest hits – I mean the crowd sang the LOUDEST to these!)

Once again mixing it up for the non-turks, I played the new Tony Gomez song “Tell Me,” leading into the one and only Swedish House Mafia’s One (Your name) remix. This one, as always, brought the house down! (YouTube Clip) Others were Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime, David Guetta/Afrojack – Louder Than Words, & Afrojack – Take Over Control.

While I have to say I wish I had worn my “I DON’T TAKE REQUESTS” shirt, the abundant amount of individuals who approached me that night didn’t just ask for specific song, but also said thank you for playing their favorites. This job is only fulfilling to me when I can please the crowd and when I can go home at the end of the night knowing I made them happy. (Ok I also like that fact that I can play music that I love and dance while I’m djing) 🙂

Thank you to everyone who came to this event. Thank you to my closest friends and family for all your support! Thanks to Baris Avsar for organizing everything. Let’s get ready for yet another successful party!

All images from the party are HERE and are also located on ALATURKA Online

Max Zotti ft. OB – Kabiria
Jose Delgado, Robert Mendoza, Rebeca Dancen – Gypsonik
Crossfire ft. Haila – Carnaval Mundial

Me, Myself & I

Ok – my female vocalists are BACK yet again (this was by accident)! Don’t ask me why, but the songs for today speak of well.. independence, empowerment, and most importantly – having fun. I’d like to call these tracks more of “feel good” songs that act as a kind of inspiration for your everyday life.

For those of you that know, I always love to DJ the other Static Revenger/Richard Vission song – I like that. Well here’s the newest one! Static Revenger feat. Luciana – Skin I’m In (Mind Electric Slammer Remix) This is who I am and all that I need.

With a little latin flair to it, this one is perfect for summer! Jason Rivas – To Start Again (Jason Rivas Back From Ibiza Vocal Mix) Bring it back and start again. Work it out that only love remains.

My affinity for John Dahlback is definitely clear in the abundant amount of songs I have of his. This remix is another one of his “masterpieces” shall I say. D-Malice ft. Rebecca Knight – Poison (John Dahlback Remix) Like poison you take hold of me…

I remember when this song first came out (it was right before I saw him live). It was a hit then and it’s still a hit. Each of these remixes is different, so listen to both! Tiesto ft. Tegan & Sara – Feel it In My Bones (Marcus Schossow Remix) OR (Paul Webster Remix) I feel you in my bones, you’re knocking at my window, you’re slowly letting me go, and i know this feeling oh so, I feel you in my bones.

This progressive track is very smooth all the way through & I definitely love the singer’s voice. Check out the Zoo Brazil and Paolo Mojo remixes also. Mason – You are Not Alone (Glenn Morrison Remix). I used to think that my life had to mean something but it turned out, I had to find out the hard way…create my own meaning.

Another remix off of Tiesto’s Kaleidoscope album. This one is a little more progressive. Tiesto ft. Nelly Furtado – Who Wants to Be Alone (Andy Duguid Remix) Don’t take me home till the sun comes up.

To be honest, I wasn’t loving this song very much when I first heard it. Over time, it definitely grew on me. Let it grow on you too! Kelly Rowland – Commander (Original) OR (David Guetta’s Fuck Me I’m Famous Remix) From here on out I’ll be your commander, No fear no doubt, I’ll provide the answer

Mélomane Monday: Stereo.Love. ♥

Happy Memorial Day! As a lot of you know, I get my new music from a plethora of online sites (yes I’m a nerd & spend hours on end searching for the newest songs). The list for today features all new releases in the U.S. & also from Europe! (I wanted to mix it up a little bit). Today’s post doesn’t really have a theme – well except for the love of music, but I’m sure most of you are relaxing (cough..partying) on this day off from work & might be in need of some new tunes!

1. It’s back & better than ever… Reel to Real has a comeback with multiple remixes of the hit “I Like To Move It“… personally, my favorite is the one from the movie Madagascar! Remixes to check out: Bart B More remix & Harry Choo Choo Romero & Erick Morillo Main Mix.

2. Benny Benassi feat. Kelis – Spaceship (EDX Remix) if you want a smoother progressive version of the song; if not – try the Radio Mix

3. The immaculate SHM’s newest hit “One” is being remixed every which way, but so far this one is my favorite because it stays true to the original. It was definitely amazing watching these guys perform this single (before it came out) at Ultra Music Festival this year! Swedish House Mafia ft. Pharrell – One (Your Name)

4. With a hard-hitting electro beat & spanish vocals, this one will surely make you want to dance..& maybe even sing! Sandro Silva – Told Ya & Blaze (Apster Remix)

5. In line with a lot of recent releases featuring the “robotic/video game” feel, this one isn’t as hardcore or annoying as the others, thanks to a fabulous remix by Chocolate Puma! I think this will definitely be one of my favorite summer songs! Robert Owens – Deep Down (Chocolate Puma Main Mix)

6. Pink Noisy teamed up with Consoul Trainin’ for a progressive summer hit. It’s a song I would listen to while lounging by the pool or on the beach! Pink Noisy – Indigo (Consoul Trainin remix). If you like it & are feeling adventurous into the Mediterranean listen to Pink Noisy & Consoul Trainin – Tango to Evora Cover.

7. Ok so in Europe last year, Edward Maya’s Stereo Love dominated dance music charts…oh yeah & it is now just FINALLY getting popular in the US (Boring!) Already topping European charts is Stromae ‘s newest hit – Alorse On Danse. It has already been remixed to feature Mister Santos & 5 million DJs have tried taking a stab at bumping this moderately tempo’d goody up to club par; however, I will recommend the Oguz Deniz Remix & …get ready for it… the Alors on Stereo mashup (Edward Maya vs Stromae)!

8. Last but not least is the newest single from Afrojack & David Guetta – Louder Than Words. The song carries David Guetta’s & Afrojack’s signature styles. The vocals mimic a John Legend vibe to me a little bit, but are nonetheless great!

*As I briefly discussed in a previous post, the dance music genre is constantly evolving & people are definitely taking notice, especially in LA. Read this article below on the shifting nature of the genre & various music festivals in LA. (Oh yes, & buy your Electric Daisy Carnival tickets!)

A D’Lishous Weekend

What.a.weekend!!!! As most of you know, I was extremely busy this past weekend DJ’ing 2 events (Saturday & Sunday). I’ll give you a mini recap of the events, as well as include some pictures for your viewing pleasure 🙂 As I’ve said many times before, this blog is not only a way for me to share my music with you (my fans), but also a place for me to talk about my many experiences DJ’ing in Los Angeles!

MC Hammer & DJ D'Lish

Getting the party started!

Saturday May 22 I DJ’d a Fresh Prince of Bel Air party in the hills hosted by my friend Jason Ramin. What a party! It definitely brought back memories of the 90’s with MC Hammer outfits all the way to Carlton look alikes from the tv show (oh & of course the Fruit by the Foot on each of the tables)! The freezing 50 degree weather definitely did not stop this crowd from dancing until 2:30 in the morning! The great part of the night for me was that I was able to play 90’s music, hip-hop, and of course my favorite… house. Going from MC Hammer Can’t Touch This to David Guetta, LMFAO, Fergie – Gettin’ Over back to Jump On It was a very easy crowd pleaser! To my surprise I received a ton of requests for more house…Deadmau5, Laidback Luke, etc., which surprised me! (I had some die hard house lovers). I think the hit of the night was the Fresh Prince of Bel Air remix I played oh and of course Tom Jones – It’s Not Unusual. Overall, the night was a fabulous success… yes I can say that because I danced the ENTIRE  time behind the DJ booth and in front of it!

DJ'ing the cruise

Sunday May 23, I DJ’d the Summer Nights Dinner Cruise fundraiser event in Newport Beach. What a beautiful yacht! With an intimate crowd, the night started off extremely relaxing. I played a lot of my lounge music during dinner and cocktails. As the night started to spruce up, I got the crowd dancing with… of course… salsa music. (because seriously, if that doesn’t get you up, nothing will). Mr. Elvis Crespo’s Suavamente, Carlos Vives’ Fruta Fresca, & the one and only Celia Cruz’s La Vida Es Un Carnaval were definitely the hits of the evening. Even though it was windy and pretty chilly on board, (not much of a “summer” experience) the beautiful ocean & sunset views paired with the music definitely was a Sunday Funday to be had!

With the head of the event

**I wanted to thank my wonderful sister Deniz for accompanying me to all my events (not just this weekend) & helping me set up/break down all my equipment! She is truly an aSISta’lish 🙂 Thank you!

Save Me.

“The only way to truly Love is to let go of what you are afraid to lose and Trust that what’s meant to be will stay.”

I do have to admit, that life is a little scary sometimes. Actually, it’s REALLY scary. We have this idea of how our lives are meant to be…who should be in them, how we work, where we play… but realistically, we really have no idea. Things can be taken from us as fast as surprises can be thrown into the mix. How are we supposed to stay grounded & guided? We fight for things & people we believe in, we try each & every day to learn something new, & we eventually figure out to think with our heads & our hearts together. Sadly, life doesn’t come with a rulebook or remote control. We can’t go to Chapter 8 to read about “How to fix a broken heart” & we can’t press rewind to turn back time & fix our mistakes. But we have NOW..the present, to say the things we never said, to speak up for how we feel, to take control…so that we will hopefully live a life with minimal regrets & burned bridges. Going into the future, what we don’t know is scary, but we do know how our lives are now & no matter what, we can save ourselves & whatever else we would regret losing in the future.

Morgan Page – Fight for You  (Sultan & Ned Shepard Mix)

“So what do you want and what are you thinking?/Isn’t it about time you stuck up for me?/But what you can’t see is we’re under siege/And I only fight because I believe/Not gonna share you no/I’d fight for you”

Agnes & LMFAO – Release Me (Party Rock Remix)

“I say release me /’Cause I’m not able to/Convince myself /That I’m better off without you”

David Guetta – Gettin’ Over (Sidney Samson Remix)

“Wish I could spin my world into reverse just to have you back again, there’s no gettin’ over, there’s just no gettin’ over you”

Ben Preston ft. Susie – Remember Me

“Will you remember me, like I remember you”

Moby – Wait for Me (Laidback Luke)

“I’m gonna ask you to look away/I love my hands, but it hurts to pray/Life I have isn’t what I’ve seen/The sky is not blue and the field’s not green/Wait for me”

Moonbeam – Openhearted

“You know I care what’s deep inside/Any hurt you choose to hide/But you should know how I feel/You should know that I like you/I want to be openhearted/Why can’t you see/You gotta be open or we’ll never get started”
