Kaskade L.A. Dynasty Tour – October 8, 2010

Kicking off the first night of his 2 day Dynasty Tour in L.A., Kaskade DJ’d at the Palladium in Hollywood on Friday October 8, 2010 to a crowd of house music lovers. This was the 2nd time I had gone to the Palladium to hear a DJ (1st time was to see Ferry Corsten) and I have to say that this venue is definitely one of my favorites. The audience has the option of standing on the ground level right in front of the stage OR watching from the balcony surrounding the sides of the Palladium. While this event was SOLD OUT, it did not even feel like it was too uncomfortable or stuffy inside to enjoy yourself because of the massive space within the venue.

Beginning his set around 12:15 am, Kaskade mesmerized the audience with his mixing skills, various mash-ups, and classic favorites. He was truly loved by the audience. Not only was the music great, but so were all the visual effects and lighting that were queued in with every song he played…. & you have to love the standard confetti blowing that comes with every house music event! Kaskade’s love for music was very evident and he connected with the crowd and their energy perfectly.

Favorite songs from the night/biggest crowd pleasers: David Guetta & Afrojack – Louder Than Words/Late Nite Alumni – Empty Streets Mashup, Swedish House Mafia – One/Kaskade – Fire in Your New Shoes Mashup, Kaskade – Dynasty – Dada Life Remix, Justice – D.A.N.C.E./Steve Angello – Knas Mashup, Kaskade – Angel on My Shoulder, Kaskade & Tiesto – Only You (Kaskade Remix), Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime (Axwell & Henrik B. Remode), Kaskade – Don’t Stop Dancing

Labor Day Lovin’

I hope all of you had a relaxing and fun labor day! My weekend was full of friends, food, and music 🙂 Friday night I went to Playhouse in Hollywood to hear EDX spin at the annual Pre-Labor Day White Party. Saturday I had a bbq and pool party at my house, and then on Sunday – I went to XIV Restaurant to hear the EC Twins DJ! Overall, I am EXHAUSTED, but the weekend was well worth all of the craziness that ensued!

Let’s start with Playhouse and DJ EDX on Friday… the place was PACKED, but looked amazing with white decorations and balloons lining the entire club and the stage. EDX, also known as Maurizio Colella, came on around 12:15ish and blew the crowd away! My favorites that he played were: Kaskade, EDX ft. Haley – Don’t Stop Dancing and Dinka – Elements (EDX 5un5hine Remix), and Switchfoot – Always (Max Vangeli & AN21 Remix). Other songs that I enjoyed were Dennis Ferrer’s famous Hey Hey (Vandalism Remix) and Eric Morillo & Eddie Thoneick’s – Live Your Life! The crowd LOVED him!!

Sunday, SBE Entertainment threw a Neon Party at XIV Restaurant for Summer Sessions on the Terrace. I had a great time, but I will say that I really enjoyed it more last year when less people knew about the EC Twins and confessed their new “love” for house music. Nonethless, it was what I like to call a house-music circus on the terrace. A sea of neon lights and glow in the dark clothes filled the 100 degree terrace (hot is an understatement) as the shirtless EC Twins put on their very fascinating show for the drunken audience. Favorite songs they played: Tim Berg – Bromance (The Love You Seek and More) (Avicii’s Extended Vocal Mix), David Guetta & Afrojack – Louder Than Words & of course Yolanda Be Cool & DCup – We No Speak Americano!

Select videos from EDX Friday and XIV Summer Sessions Sunday will be posted on DJ D’Lish’s Youtube Channel

EDC 2010: A V.I.P. Review

I think there is one word to describe how I felt after EDC: Exhausted!…but what an experience 🙂 After a 40 minute walk from the parking lot to the Coliseum and about another 30 minutes to get through intense lines and crowds (luckily we got to hear Afrojack while in the security line)…my friends and I finally made it into the VIP area.

Even though the VIP area was not as close to the stage as I would have liked, it was well worth the more expensive ticket for the open bar, extra space to sit, the ability to walk down to the general admission area by the stage, and of course…nicer bathrooms. Sadly, we missed Chuckie’s full set, but were able to hear the last couple of songs in his set as we frantically ran into VIP before he finished. Next up was Dirty South who began the set with one of my ABSOLUTE favorites…John Dahlback – Pyramid. He also played a mashup of Body Language with De Bos – On the Run, I’m Sorry, Let it Go, and his remix of Temper Trap’s – Sweet Disposition.

Following Dirty South was one of my personally most anticipated performance of the night…. Swedish House Mafia. Some of my favorites that the trio played were: Sweet Dreams remix, the Steve Angello Be mashup with Benassi’s Satisfaction, Supermode’s Tell me Why mashup with Bittersweet Symphony, Leave the World Behind, and of course the famous ONE (including the remix).

After the insanity that was SHM, Kaskade took the stage around 11pm. With JUST as much excitement as SHM, the crowd was beyond ready to hear all Kaskade’s new hits from his album Dynasty….which of course was his opener of the evening. Besides playing a lot of songs off the new album and his older album Strobelite Seduction, Kaskade’s mashups (for me) were the best of the night: Kaskade/Afrojack/Digital Lab/Guetta – Louder than Empty Streets, Be Still Satisfaction, & Kaskade/Alex Gaudino – I’ll Never Dream I’m in Love. Last but not least was the one and only Deadmau5…I was definitely beyond exhausted by the time he came on, but it was great to listen to one of my absolute favorites – Ghosts N’ Stuff!

IF you happened to miss the Carnival and were not able to hear it on Satellite radio: live sets were posted HERE.

The one and only…Electric Daisy Carnival 2010

For those house, progressive, electronic, and trance music lovers anxiously awaiting one of the biggest national music festivals, the week of the Electric Daisy Carnival is upon us! Friday June 25 and Saturday June 26 the Colliseum in downtown Los Angeles will be exploding with 5 stages, carnival rides, food, people dressed up in what I like to call “Halloween-like” costumes (yeah – you know why), and most importantly – some of the most prominent and talented DJs in the world. Last year’s EDC was definitely an experience to be had (I still can’t get over people’s outfits – or should I say costumes). Luckily for my group of friends, we had purchased VIP tickets and didn’t have to be crushed in a sea of crazies. I had such an amazing time last year and still have my souvenir “MUSIC IS MY DRUG” t-shirt! I can’t wait until Friday!

Some of the top headliners:

Friday

Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Kaskade, Chuckie, Dirty South, Afrojack, DJ Sets: Moby, Basement Jaxx, BT (Live)

Mélomane Monday: Trancendance

I have to say I was a little inspired by Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, & Ferry Corsten’s podcasts this week and last week. I’m not one to intently listen/follow trance (it’s a little too much for me personally), but songs that aren’t too hardcore do spark my interest! Recently, I’ve witnessed a transformation within the dance music genre. It is becoming more commonplace for  DJ’s & producers to now create songs that fuse dance sub-genres together. From Kaskade & Morgan Page to Tiesto… these artists’ new albums have cleverly combined house, progressive, & even trance. While these sub-genres still exist in their purest form, as a DJ & music lover, it is refreshing to be able to listen to a little of everything wrapped in one song.

-If you like the song selection from today you should consider subscribing to Ferry Corsten (Corsten’s Countdown), Tiesto‘s (Club Life), Armin Van Buuren (A State of Trance) podcasts on iTunes

Kaskade & Tiesto feat. Haley  – Only You (Kaskade Remix) House

Markus Schulz ft. Khaz – Dark Heart Waiting (Jochen Miller Remix) Trance

DJ Mog feat. Sarah Lynn – Somewhere (Extended Mix) House

68 Beats ft. Lizzie Curious – Set Me Free (Chris Moody Mix) or (George Acosta Mix) Progressive House

Omnia & The Blizzard feat. Susana – Closer (Original Mix) Trance

Darren Bailie – Silence (Marc Lime K Bastian Club Mix) Electro House

Blushin’ Beats

As I prepare to DJ the opening of LA Blush Boutique‘s second location next week, I began thinking about how essential song selection is for different types of events. With a Blush’tini in hand and an appetite for the trendiest new & affordable clothes, customers definitely do not want to feel as though they are shopping in an ordinary store – especially at a store’s launch party. Here’s where I come in. First thing I consider when putting together my playlist is Who are these people?  and How do I want to make them feel? Secondly, I do not want to force them out of the store with very loud hardcore electro beats, because honestly – this isn’t a club (even though MY ideal store would have house music playing 24/7).

With that said, I want to create a classy experience for these shoppers. One that will excite them, stimulate their senses, and maybe even put a little swing in their step (or maybe that will be from the Blush’tinis?). Today’s song selection will include some of the artists and my favorite songs I will be incorporating into my playlist at the November 18th Launch Party of Blush Boutique in Calabasas.
